Data Management: Archiving

Data Repositories

Where should you put your data after the paper is written or the project is done?

For the sake of long-term access to the data and for subsequent use of the data by others beyond the project, you may decide to deposit your data in a repository.

Which repository should you use?

Which repository to use depends on your goals for putting the data in a repository and on the availability of repositories for your data. In general, a discipline-based repository has an advantage over an institutional repository if people in the discipline regularly use the repository as a place to find data. On the other hand, not all disciplines have repositories, and not all repositories are created equal. Some other things for you to consider are...

  • Availability
  • Cost
  • File Size
  • Preservation
  • Access Control

Where can these repositories be found?
