LibGuides Training: What is a LibGuide?

How to build LibGuides in a way that makes it as easy-as-possible to keep them up-to-date and looking nice (and avoid the ire of the system administrator).

How is LibGuides pronounced?

Is the "Lib" pronounced as in "liberation" or as in "library"?

Many people ask us this and - believe it or not - there were even bets being placed among some librarians (though we were assured that no money changed hands ;) Our official pronunciation is "Lib" as in liberation. -from the SpringShare Website

What is a LibGuide?

  • LibGuides is a web 2.0 content management and publishing system created by SpringShare.

  • LibGuides is a hosted system which is run on the SpringShare servers. The company provides support and upgrades. A library just needs to subscribe to the service.

  • Libraries use it to:
    • integrate multimedia content into library services
    • promote library resources to their users
    • create subject guides, course guides, information portals, research help pages, etc.

There are now more than 12,000 users at over 750 libraries
worldwide using LibGuides.

They have created 40,000+ guides.
