Graduate Student Workshops & Webinars

Welcome to Morris Library's Graduate Student Workshop Series

Librarians are offering workshops for graduate students this semester. All workshops will be held online on Teams, except for the 9/22 EndNote workshop and the 9/24 Lit Review Workshop.  The day before the workshop, you will receive an email with the Teams link information. Each workshop will last approximately 50 minutes.  Please register for all workshops at the link below:

Making the Most of Interlibrary Loan as a Distance Learner

This workshop will cover how to successfully utilize Interlibrary Loan as a resource as a distance learner. We will discuss how to establish yourself with the library as a distance learner, what your responsibilities are, how to create a request via ILL and IShare, and finally tips to maximize our resources efficiently and improve your experience.

Getting Started with the Literature Review for Your Thesis/Dissertation

Librarians will guide you through the process of crafting a thorough and refined literature review.

Zotero

Zotero is a free citation management software that can aid students in organizing and citing while writing papers and conducting research. This workshop will show students how to download Zotero and its add-ons, curate sources, add citations to their library, and streamline the writing process.

EndNote citation management software is available courtesy of Morris Library. Learn how to most effectively use the software to save you time and headaches! This beginning level workshop will help those that have little to no experience with EndNote.  Request a copy of EndNote from the Office of Information Technology.

Advanced Database Searching

This workshop will cover advanced techniques for searching academic databases, including precision keyword construction, subject searching, citation chaining, and managing search results. Special focus will be placed on EBSCOhost databases and the new interface implemented for Fall 2025.

Journal Submission Process

Topics covered in this workshop include the journal submission process from start-to-finish with a special emphasis on Journal Rankings and Impact Factors, Open SIUC, and Copyright.
