Journal Publishing Services: Standards

Standards for new journal requests

  • Journals must be open access, meaning no fees are assessed for access to content
  • Journals should have clearly assigned responsibilities for the Editor(s), including contingency plans
  • Journals should have an Editorial Board
  • At a minimum, one of the Editors or Editorial Board members must be employed at Southern Illinois University Carbondale
  • Journals should include an Aims and Scope statement, Submission Guidelines, and indicate frequency of publication
  • Journals should be scholarly
  • Journals should publish at least one issue annually, with a minimum of five articles
  • Preference will be given to journals that meet the qualifications for the Seal of Approval from the Directory of Open Access Journals (see https://doaj.org/application/new#article_identifiers-container)
  • Journals will be assigned an ISSN number
    • The library will register the journal with the Copyright Office upon approval of the journal.
  • Authors should retain their copyright
    • OpenSIUC does not require the transfer of copyright of articles, and neither should the journal itself
  • All submissions become a permanent part of OpenSIUC.  No published content will be withdrawn from OpenSIUC, unless it is for reasons of copyright infringement or other intellectual property violation.
