Policy

IRM procedures for handling unbound items or bound items with accompanying paper materials

 

1.       Acquisitions

  • Items are received, stamped and barcoded (except for maps)
  • All items sent to Preservation.

 

2.       Preservation

  • Preservation makes a recommendation regarding housing and storage of items, noted on salmon flag.
  • All items sent to Cataloging: map-related items to Beth.

 

3.       Cataloging

  • Map-related items are taken to Harry for housing and storage determination.
  • After cataloging, item is returned to Preservation for binding/housing.

 

4.       Preservation/Bindery

  • Items are bound in-house or sent to the bindery.
  • If items returned from the bindery are different than requested, item sent to Cataloging to change record information.
  • Items sent to Marking.

 

5.       Marking

  • Follow any specific directions noted regarding enclosures.
