Search Your EndNote Library

Quick Search

Use the Quick Search box in the toolbar to search your EndNote Desktop library, PDFs, and PDF annotations.

Search Panel

Use the Search panel to conduct a more robust search of the citations, PDFs, and PDF annotations in your EndNote Desktop Library.

When searching references, you can search your entire Desktop library or you can search within a particular group or group set.

Step 1: Select All References or select the group or group set you want to search by clicking on it in the Groups panel.

Step 2: If the Search panel isn't visible, select Search Library from the Tools menu or click the Show Search Panel button in the toolbar.

Step 3: Select the appropriate Field List term, Comparison List term, and enter the search term(s) in the Search Field and then click Search. The results will appear below the Search panel.

Search Tips

  • You can also use multiple Search Fields and combine search terms with the Logical Operator List.
  • If you need more or fewer Search fields simply click one of the plus or minus buttons on the left of the Search panel.
  • Do not use quotation marks when searching for a phrase.
